2023 Sunflower Challenge
At our Easter service this year, we launched an exciting competition to see who can grow the biggest sunflower at St. Johns. All of the children were given an envelope of sunflower seeds with the instructions to take them home, plant them, water them, nurture them and watch them grow.
Hopefully, as they see the first signs of the plant germinating and sprouting out of the soil, they will be reminded of our Easter Service where we talked about ‘Temptation, Forgiveness and New Beginnings’. And all being well, let's hope that come September we will be seeing an army of very tall Sunflowers being displayed for all to see in our school.
There will be prizes for the best Sunflowers grown and the best Sunflower picture diaries. The winners will be announced in September.
*SEPTEMBER UPDATE - WINNERS*
- Most impressive sunflower in Reception & Key Stage 1 winner - Willow Burgess
- Most impressive sunflower in Key Stage 2 winner - Elise Cole
- Most impressive sunflower diary winner - Jack Hood
Please take a look at all the wonderful sunflower pictures sent in by our children.
“God gives every seed-bearing plant and every green plant to humans and animals for food” Genesis 1:29-30
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
