In Geography, the children will be going on a walk around the local area and making observations about what it is like. They will be able to name places close to Sandbach Heath and identify the difference between a city, town and a village. They will also be looking at the different seasons.
For Art, we are going to be finding out about LS Lowry and drawing transport in the style of his work. We will be using sketcing pencils to draw different lines of different thickness.

Knowing the term ‘plural’
We are going to be basing our writing around the stories 'Hermelin' and 'Where the wild things are'.
Phonics will be delivered daily and will be having a focus by revisiting phase 3 sounds and moving onto Phase 4 and 5 sounds. We will also be looking at high frequency words and tricky words to support the children's reading and spellings.
The children will also be looking at nonsense words to get them prepared for their phonics screening at the end of the school year. The children will be encouraged to complete their phonics packs at home to support their in school.
During Little Wandle reading, we will be developing our reading skills through discussing the books that we are reading and using sounds to segment words and blend them back together. We will have a lesson on Prosody and comprehension.
This term we will be focusing on Fractions, Money, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction,

It would be really helpful if you could practise some of these things at home:

Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Telling the time

PE lessons are outdoors and the children will be coming into school on this day in their PE kits.
PE kits should include:
A white t-shirt
Black shorts
Trainers (not pumps or slip on shoes)
A warm tracksuit for colder days
Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be completed and returned on Monday.
The children will all have a reading book at the appropriate level. Reading with your child is very important as it helps them develop their learning in all areas of the curriculum.
Talking with your child and asking them questions about the book will enhance their comprehension skills. Reading books need to be in school every day so that they can be changed.
We will be encouraging personal hygiene and regular washing of hands. It would be great if you could also encourage this at home. Please see video at the bottom of the page!
I am looking forward to teaching your child this year for their journey in Year 1!
