Form capital letters

Words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught

Common exception words

Write sentences by:

Saying out loud what they are going to write about

Composing a sentence orally before writing it

Sequencing sentences to form short narratives

Leaving spaces between words

Joining words and joining clauses using and

Discuss what they have written with the teacher or other pupils

Read aloud their writing clearly enough to be heard by their peers and the teacher.

We are going to be basing our writing around the stories ‘Rapunzel by Bethan Woolvin'.

Phonics will be delivered daily and will be having a focus by revisiting phase 3 sounds and moving onto Phase 4 and 5 sounds. We will also be looking at high frequency words and tricky words to support the children's reading and spellings. We will be using the phonics scheme ‘Little Wandle’ to support the teaching of phonics.

The children will also be looking at nonsense words to get them prepared for their phonics screening at the end of the school year.

During Little Wandle reading, we will be developing our reading skills through discussing the books that we are reading and using sounds to segment words and blend them back together. We will have a lesson on Prosody and comprehension.

In RE, the children will be learning about Jesus and Easter.

During PE, the children will be doing Gymnastics and Multi-skills. This will be taught by Mrs Riddle on a Thursday afternoon.

PE lessons are outdoors and the children will be coming into school on this day in their PE kits.

PE kits should include:

A white t-shirt

Black shorts

Trainers (not pumps or slip on shoes)

A warm tracksuit for colder days

On a Wednesday, Mrs Rachubka will be teaching the children RE, Multiplication, Science, Steps to read and Phonics.

Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be completed and returned on Monday.

The children will all have a reading book at the appropriate level in-line with their phonics sounds. Reading with your child is very important as it helps them develop their learning in all areas of the curriculum. The books will be online that you can access every Friday.

Talking with your child and asking them questions about the book will enhance their comprehension skills. Pleasure for reading books will be sent home daily.

I am looking forward to teaching your child this year for their journey in Year 1!
