Fire engines, by Miss Cragg

Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 10:17am

This term our DT topic was to plan, make and evaluate our own fire engine. We investigated fire engines to find their features then used this information to plan what we would need to include on our models. We investgated wheels, axles and chassis. The children had to decide whether they wanted their fire engine to have moving axles with fixed wheels or fixed axles with moving wheels. We used boxes to build the body of the fire engine and the children planned the materials that they needed.

Have a look at the pictures of our fire engines :)

Junior 1 RE Candlemas, by Mrs Osborne

Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 6:11pm

This afternoon, the children in Junior 1 learnt about Candlemass. They learnt about how it is celebrated by Christians on the 2nd February when Jesus was presented before God in the temple by Mary and Joseph. The children remembered their learning from last week and recalled that Simeon and Anna were also in the temple at this time. One child said Simeon was so pleased to see Jesus that he asked to hold him and thanked God for sending the Saviour of the World. Another child recalled how Anna told everyone about Jesus and that he was a gift from God. They found out that during the celebration of Candlemass the vicar blesses candles in the church. They learnt that everyone is presented with a candle to take home and remember the presentation of Jesus to God throughout the year.

The children used black card and oil pastels to create candle stained glass windows. They look beautiful and remind us that God is the Light of the World. Well done Junior 1!
